Description

1926-S Buffalo Nickel, MS64
Rarely Any Finer

1926-S 5C MS64 PCGS. Weak design definition is expected on the 1926-S Buffalo nickel, the only issue in the series with a mintage below 1 million coins. Production totaled just 970,000 examples. The obverse periphery is slightly merged into the rim due to a worn die. Similarly, the bison's head on the reverse is indistinct. Those characteristics are seen on all genuine examples. In fact, a sharp strike on a 1926-S nickel is immediate cause for concern. This Choice Mint State piece has brilliant underlying luster with vibrant gold, sea-green, and lilac toning. While PCGS has certified a little over 200 submissions in MS64, including 14 graded MS64+, numerically finer examples are rare with just 20 better examples examined at that grading service (6/25).(Registry values: N4719)
