Description

1652 Pine Tree Shilling, MS62
Large Planchet, Reversed N
Noe-5, Salmon 4-Di

1652 Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet, Reversed N, Noe-5, W-720, Salmon 4-Di, R.4, MS62 NGC. 68.0 grains. The shape of the M in DOM and the SA in MSATHVSETS are pick-up points to distinguish Noe-5 from from Noe-4, Noe-4.5, and Noe-6. A conditionally rare representative. The Heritage auction archives show only two higher-grade examples, the MS64 NGC Donald Groves Partrick specimen and the MS63 NGC John J. Ford, Jr. specimen. This satiny shilling displays medium lavender-gray and aquamarine toning. Unblemished and attractive. Two relatively small flaws on the lower edge allow ready identification. The usual Noe-5 die state with breaks through the M in DOM and inside the beaded circle on the reverse, near 9 and 11 o'clock. Listed on page 9 of the 2026 Guide Book.

Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 915755, Base PCGS# 45372)
