Description

1871 Two Cent Piece, PR66 Red Cameo
Starkly Contrasted

1871 2C PR66 Cameo NGC. FS-102. After the initial boom in production in 1864 and 1865 the mintages steadily dwindled until the denomination was eliminated after 1873. The later years are generally not available except in proof format. This is a bright example with deeply reflective fields and frosted devices that provide pronounced cameo contrast. The surfaces are red with an undercurrent of reddish-yellow patina. TRUST is die doubled, as seen on all proof 1871 two cent pieces.(Registry values: P1)
