1877 Shield Nickel, PR66
Proof-Only Key Issue
1877 5C PR66 PCGS. CAC. A key date in the Shield nickel
series, the 1877 is a proof-only issue with a mintage of only 510
pieces. This is one of the most attractive examples we have seen
recently of this important date. The surfaces are toned light rose
and sky-blue over both sides. The obverse fields show moderate
depth of reflectivity, but the reverse is shallowly mirrored. A
carefully preserved Gem with no distractions of note. Population:
39 in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer. CAC: 11 in 66, 2 finer (1/18).Ex: Superior (8/2002), lot 1539; FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2005), lot 5720.
