Description

1838 Bust Half Dollar, MS65
GR-12, Finest Known

1838 50C GR-12, R.4, MS65 NGC. A fine diagonal die crack east of Liberty's eye, and a heavy die crack between the AL in HALF, combine to confirm the scarce GR-12 die variety. A splendid Gem with glimpses of chestnut-brown and blue-green peripheral toning, but most of this coin is stone-white. Well struck throughout. Marks are absent save for a thin vertical line near stars 2 and 3. At the top of the GR-12 Condition Census in the Stephen J. Herrman Autumn 2021 Revision.
