Description

1854 Three Cent Silver, MS67
Condition Census Rarity

1854 3CS MS67 PCGS. The 1854 was the first date of the Type Two or Large Star design for the three cent silver series. Some 671,000 pieces were struck, but the coins circulated extensively and none were initially preserved in high grade for numismatic purposes. Superb Gems like the present survive today by chance, and they are very rare, with only eight known in this grade and finer at PCGS and NGC combined (7/25).

A sharp strike complements lustrous, pristine surfaces with no distracting abrasions. Silver interiors cede to russet and blue-green border toning. The coin is struck from lightly clashed dies but does not show the lapping typically seen. Population: 5 in 67, 1 finer (7/25).(Registry values: N4719)
