Description

1901 Morgan Dollar, MS63
Highly Elusive in Finer Grades

1901 $1 MS63 PCGS. Two-olive reverse. Only a minuscule portion of the nearly 7 million Philadelphia 1901 silver dollars survive -- a fact that when recognized, over-promotion and questionable grading prevailed. The grading services have done their job sorting out the relatively few Mint State survivors, which primarily grade in the MS61 to MS63 range. This Select Uncirculated example displays dappled blue and tan-gold toning allowing plentiful silver luster to shine through. The strike is sharp for the issue, with some over-the-ear definition and no distracting marks or abrasions whatsoever. This coin is strong for the grade. PCGS reports only 37 numerically finer certifications, plus 14 pieces in 63+ (2/25).(Registry values: P9, N4719)
