Description

1831 N-7 Cent, MS65 Brown
Probable Condition Census

1831 1C Large Letters, N-7, R.1, MS65 Brown PCGS. CAC. Noyes Die State C/B, the usual die state. Bill Noyes records two dozen Mint State examples of 1831 N-7, but the majority of those coins have assigned grades no better than MS60. The finest known example of the variety, the former Naftzger coin, is similarly PCGS graded MS65 Brown. The finer example in the Dan Holmes Collection was called sixth finest known and PCGS graded MS64 Brown. This Gem is likely among the six finest examples of the variety. Beautiful chocolate-brown toning appears on this lustrous and boldly struck Gem. Abrasions are effectively absent, and carbon is incidental aside from subtle spots near the N in CENT in the E in UNITED. Our EAC grade MS62. PCGS Large Letters Population: 11 in 65 Brown, 1 finer. PCGS N-7 Population: 2 in 65 Brown, 0 finer (11/21).
Ex: Orlando Signature (Heritage, 7/2016), lot 3030.
