Description

Nueva Granada 8 Reales 1819-JF AU53 NGC, Bogota mint, KM78, Restrepo-142.1. "Libertad Americana" issue. Struck after Colombia had gained independence from Spain at the Battle of Boyacá, but prior to the establishment of the Republic of Colombia. Scarce in such a desirable state, blanketed by gray and pewter surfaces that still retain an element of original luster. The surviving detail on both the indigenous bust and the reverse pomegranate far exceed the norm and might even have been graded conservatively.
