An Exciting Discovery Piece

Pedro II silver Pattern 800 Reis 1834 AU Details (Tooled) NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM-Pn67, LMB-E096. It is thrilling to present an exclusive item such as this. According to LMB, the only known 1834 specimen of this whimsical denomination is the one present in the Museu Histórico Nacional's Collection (National Historic Museum of Brazil). This piece, rendered with a precision regarded to Pattern issues--likely for presentation--fully retains the sharpness of when it was struck. The ancient slate tone indicates decades in a coin cabinet, a patina which overlays the noted grade qualifier: inexplicable scattered marks across the fields. Though fairly graded, such fine marks are minimally distracting and barely noticeable in hand without a good magnifying glass. Curiously, we were able to locate a more common Pattern 1200 Reis 1841 (AU Details (Scratches) with more pronounced field marks (Heritage #3093, October 2021, Lot 30048) that hammered at $6,250. This attractive and remarkable rarity within the Cruzados series will likely inspire bidding among even the most advanced collectors of the series.
