Description

Vibrant Hungarian Rarity

Leopold II Taler 1790-A MS64 Prooflike NGC, Vienna mint, KM406.1, Dav-1172, Herinek-35. Leopold II, the penultimate Holy Roman Emperor, reigned for only two years until his death in 1792. This is the only Hungarian Taler issue struck in his name, as such it is both scarce and highly coveted by collectors needing an example of this specific type of "World Crown". These pieces were often struck well with varying degrees of reflectivity to the surfaces, but to locate a specimen such as this, awarded with the Prooflike designation due to consistently and bountifully reflective surfaces on both faces, is certainly an exciting occurrence. This selection marks the first ever occurrence of this type with Heritage, as it very rare to encounter these outside of Europe. Don't be fooled by the somewhat generic design, this is one of the most desirable Habsburg Taler issues of the 18th Century.
