Description

1795 Flowing Hair Dollar, AU58
Three Leaves, B-5, BB-27
Lightly Toned, Outstanding Eye Appeal

1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves, B-5, BB-27, R.1, AU58 PCGS. Bowers Die State III. The diagnostic die line behind Liberty's highest neck curl makes identification easy for the popular B-5, BB-27 variety. While readily found in lower circulated grades, this die pair is surprisingly challenging in near-Mint or fully Mint State grades. This is a pleasing AU58 example with splendid centering and evenly dispersed light-gray color throughout both the obverse and the reverse. All but a few breast feathers are defined on the eagle and Liberty's hair strands are individually bold. This middle die state example shows a faint die crack running from the base of the second T in STATES to the leaf pair above the eagle's right (facing) wing. Scattered solitary die rust lumps dot the reverse margin and a faint pinscratch extends from the bust tip to star 13. High magnification reveals a few faint adjustment marks remaining below Liberty's ear, but they mostly effaced by the bold strike unseen in-hand. This is an ideal example of the Three Leaves type for any early dollar enthusiast. PCGS Population: 45 in 58, 27 finer (11/25).
