Description

Choice Gold Ducaton of 1763

West Friesland. Provincial gold Specimen Pattern Ducaton (Silver Rider) 1673 SP63 PCGS, KM-Pn2, Delm-847, PW-Wf77.3. 45.57gm. Struck in Enkhuizen at the private mint of Dirk Bosch to a 13 Ducat weight. An extravagant gold selection from the coveted Netherlands provincial series, and one of a handful of these off-metal and off-weight types we've handled in recent years from the Coenen Collection. A clear product of additional care and attention to detail that accompanied the piece's production from the skilled hand of engraver Chr. Adolphi, the piece endures highly detailed and is of a quality rarely seen in its contemporaries. The preservation of the piece is second to none, bathed in ample reflectivity and only the occasional wisp to note. Most recently we handled a specimen of this type in silver in our May CSNS sale that garnered substantial interest and can only anticipate collector response commensurate with the rapidly expanding market for Dutch rarities.
