Description

1836 Gobrecht Dollar, Toned PR63
Judd-60 Original, Die Alignment I
Clear Die State Diagnostics

1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1 PR63 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. No Stars Obverse, Stars Reverse. Die Alignment I (coin turn, center of Liberty's head opposite the D in DOLLAR). Die State F, a relatively late state of the dies. The die state markers are clear on this piece despite the older style holder, allowing definitive identification. The die line through the right side of the O in ONE is indistinct, though, likely due to a trifle of strike softness that leaves the most elevated ridge of the eagle's left wing incomplete. On the obverse, the Liberty figure appears sharp. Deep reflective fields adorn blue-green and lavender-gray patina throughout, easily masking the light handling marks that limit the numeric grade. Regardless, this Select proof is much finer than the typically seen impaired examples of the Original 1836 Gobrecht dollar. PCGS Population: 23 in 63, 15 finer (12/25).
