Description

Oaxaca. Revolutionary copper Pattern 60 Pesos 1916 TM AU55 Brown NGC, KM755b. Plain edge. Howland Wood noted copper strikes of this fascinating and scarce issue with a plain edge in 1928, and although the mintage figures are unknown, the numbers are certainly extremely limited. A historically and numismatically significant variety; the engraver, Teofilo Monroy, signed his initials 'TM' below the revolutionary devices present on the reverse, and was later executed by the Federal Army in the reconquest of the state. Smooth, chocolate brown surfaces and of a bold strike, the designs crisply pronounced, a gleam and slight luster to the fields. Overall a superb example of Mexican Revolutionary coinage, befitting a fine collection of the type.
