Description

1877-CC Ten Dollar, AU53
Difficult Carson City Date

1877-CC $10 AU53 NGC. Winter 1-A. A scant mintage of only 3,332 pieces and heavy circulation in the Nevada territory at the time of issue renders the 1877-CC gold eagle scarce in all grades. PCGS provides a survival estimate of only 60 to 75 pieces. None of these are in Mint State, and even AU coins are very rare. NGC and PCGS combined list 119 grading events for this issue, which undoubtedly includes a number of duplications. We estimate that less than 100 pieces are known.

This example show bold detail and rich orange-gold patina, with hints of luster in the most protected areas. Scattered abrasions accompany the grade. We last handled an AU53 example of this date in our April 2017 Signature, where a PCGS coin realized $41,125.(Registry values: N4719)
