1794 S-38, B-25 Cent, VF Details
Second Single Berry Reverse
1794 1C Head of 1794, S-38, B-25, R.5 -- Corrosion -- NGC
Details. VF. Ex: Carlyle Luer Collection. The obverse has heavy
die chips in the field below the cap, and that feature combined
with the single berry reverse is diagnostic for attribution. The
outer field chip is not obvious on this early die state example.
Both sides have extensive porosity on the olive and light brown
surfaces. Trivial obverse rim nicks are noted at 12 o'clock and 3
o'clock. This piece comes with a hand-written envelope with a grade
of VF20. A missing coin in the Condition Census is from the Thomas
Warfield collection in 1955, and is described as "Fine 15.
Sharpness of VF-25 but damaged at the edges." While that coin was
unplated in the catalog, it could easily be this example. Our EAC
