1652 Pine Tree Shilling, XF Sharpness
Rare Salmon 3-C, Large Planchet
1652 Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet, No Pellets at Trunk,
Noe-3, W-710, Salmon 3-C, R.6 -- Questionable Color -- PCGS
Genuine. XF Details. 64.81 grains. The tree has a nearly
spherical shape on this rare die marriage. The reverse die
previously struck the Straight Tree variety, Salmon 2-C, and now
shows a few small field lumps near the 1 in the date. A somewhat
oval example with glossy and moderately wavy surfaces bathed in
ocean-blue and lavender toning. A slender mark is above the X in
XII. Described as "discovered in a yard in Peabody, Massachusetts"
in its 1989 auction appearance. Listed on page 36 of the 2025
