ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 2nd-1st centuries BC. AR tetradrachm (30mm, 16.71 gm, 11h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. New Style coinage, ca. 126/5 (?) BC, 3rd month. Eume(nes?), Epigene, and Sosandrus, magistrates. Head of Athena right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with aphlaston, Pegasus above undecorated upturned cheek flap, protomes of four horses above visor / Α-ΘΕ / EY/MH / EΠI/ΓENH / ΣΩΣAN/ΔPOΣ (magistrates), owl standing facing on overturned amphora; eagle on thunderbolt in left field, Γ on amphora, ΜΕ (engraver) below; all within olive wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 446a-c. Stunning gradient, rainbow toning towards the center of the coin. Well struck with bold detailing.
