Description

1853-C Gold Dollar, VF35
Final Charlotte Type One, CAC

1853-C G$1 VF35 NGC. CAC. Winter-1. The 1853-C is the last of the Charlotte Type One dollars. The strike quality had declined such that Doug Winter in Gold Coins of the Charlotte Mint, third edition, proclaimed "This is the worst struck Type One gold dollar from the Charlotte Mint." While flaws typical of the issue are noted on this VF35 example, the quality is nonetheless worthy of CAC endorsement. Eye appeal is wonderful, displaying medium green-gold patina with tiny bits of dirt attesting to the originality of this final-issue piece.(Registry values: N991)
