Description

1865 Gold Dollar, MS63
Low Mintage, Highly Reflective

1865 G$1 MS63 PCGS. The 1865 Philadelphia gold dollar ranks as one of the rarest of the Mint from its 40-year series. The mintage of only 3,700 pieces from the final year of the Civil War has a low survival rate, with all pieces scarce and Mint State examples conditionally rare. This Select Uncirculated example exhibits a sharp strike on orange-gold patina and is highlighted with vibrant tints of lavender throughout. The fields show outstanding reflectivity and produce stark contrast with the frosty design elements. Hairlines and a few light marks limit the grade, although the eye appeal remains strong from the colorful, flashy cartwheel effect. A planchet flaw running underneath UNITED is noted on the obverse, with the reverse exhibiting mostly pristine surfaces. Housed in a green Generation 3.0 holder.(Registry values: N2998)
