Description

1813 BD-1 Half Eagle, MS63
First Year of the Type

1813 $5 BD-1, R.2, MS63 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. As the first year of the Capped Head half eagle type, the 1813 is easily the most plentiful issue of the modified John Reich design. The first S in STATES is centered over the space between the E and P of PLURIBUS on this variety that is more frequently encountered than the BD-2, although neither variety is considered rare. Bold definition is displayed on both sides of this example that features brilliant and lustrous yellow-gold surfaces. Trivial blemishes are primarily confined to the fields, the only exceptions being a few paper-thin facial marks.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2005), lot 8591.
