Description

1879-CC Silver Dollar, MS65+
Contrasted Prooflike Example
Tied for Finest in Prooflike at PCGS

1879-CC $1 MS65+ Prooflike PCGS. CAC. Among Morgan dollars, the 1879-CC is the second rarest Carson City issue in high grade after the 1889-CC. Although some 756,000 coins were struck, only a little more than 4,000 of these were preserved through the GSA sales of the 1870s, where most other Carson City issues were abundant. Gem 1879-CC coins are scarce, and those in the Prooflike category are notably rare. This Plus-designated example is tied for the finest Prooflike coin at PCGS (3/25). Brilliant surfaces yield deep mirroring in the fields, with frost-white luster across the well-struck devices. A faint russet toning spot at the back of Liberty's nostril serves as a pedigree marker. Population: 13 in 65 (4 in 65+) Prooflike, 0 finer. CAC: 6 in 65, 0 finer (3/25).(Registry values: P7, N7079)
