Description

Napoleon III gold Specimen "Literacy Class" Medal ND (1860-1879) SP62 PCGS, 28.08gm. By F. Cique. Awarded to a Mr. Hipp in 1867 for his achievements in an adult literary class at the Institute Burnhaupt-le-Haut. The medal, which features a high-relief bust of Napoleon III, more generally celebrates the cause of universal suffrage, as per the reverse legend: "In the country of universal suffrage, every citizen must know how to read and write."
