Description
1936 Rhode Island Half Dollar, MS68
Tercentenary Commemorative
Among the Finest Certified
1936 50C Rhode Island MS68 PCGS. The 1936 Rhode Island half
dollar commemorated the 300th anniversary of Roger Williams' June
24, 1636 arrival in the Rhode Island territory and the subsequent
founding of the Providence plantations. The total authorized
coinage for this commemorative was 50,000 pieces, of which 20,000
were struck at Philadelphia, and 15,000 each at Denver and San
Francisco (plus a handful of assay coins at each mint). All of
these pieces were distributed, meaning that, contrary to some
classic commemorative issues, the mintage figures for the Rhode
Island Tercentenary half dollars are equal to the distribution
totals. This high-end Superb Gem is among the top six coins certified by PCGS and NGC (5/25). Radiant mint luster adorns satiny, pristine surfaces. The interiors yield uniform lemon-gold color with slight iridescence, while deeper amber and mint-green hues appear around the outer peripheries. Population: 3 in 68 (1 in 68+), 0 finer (5/25).(Registry values: N4719)
