Description

1858-S Twenty Dollar, MS61
Underappreciated S-Mint Issue

1858-S $20 MS61 NGC. Heavy commercial use and domestic circulation limits the grade of nearly all surviving 1858-S double eagles. While a few pieces were recovered from the S.S. Republic, most of those coins graded About Uncirculated. Mint State examples remain elusive for this Type One issue. A sharp San Francisco strike is on display throughout both sides of this attractive Mint State coin. Lovely orange-gold color flows across minimally abraded, pleasingly lustrous surfaces. Census: 20 in 61 (2 in 61+), 2 finer (6/23).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2699, PCGS# 8925, Greysheet# 9894)

Weight: 33.44 grams
