Spanish Colony. Isabel II gold 4 Pesos 1866/65 AU50 PCGS, Manila mint, KM144, Cal-861, Fr-1. The gold Pesos issued for the Spanish Philippines under Isabel II are enormously popular, aided by the existence of many overdates and die varieties. This particular overdate, seen here on the largest of the gold Peso denominations, seems to be especially popular with collectors, rarely encountered this nice. The caramel complexion of the gold and the luminous accents from the pockets of preserved mint bloom are very attractive. This is the nicest example of this overdate type to ever appear with Heritage, eclipsing an NGC XF45 piece that hammered for $3,200 in 2017.
