Description

1841-O 10C Closed Bud, Large O, F-101, FS-902, R.6, Fine 15 PCGS. The Open Bud subtype was introduced in 1841, replacing its Closed Bud predecessor. Two leftover dies from 1840 were put into service in New Orleans, one with a Small O mintmark (FS-901), the other with a Large O (FS-902). Both varieties are rare and command enormous premiums. This FS-902 example offers unmarked and original charcoal-gray surfaces.
