1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Close Date, B-27, BB-113, R.2, AU58 NGC. Bowers Die State II with a crack through S OF A but without a crack through STA. Lovely cherry-red and ocean-blue patina endows the obverse border. The remainder of this near-Mint early dollar is dove-gray with rose, gold, and lilac undertones. Early dollars with attractive multicolor toning are seldom encountered. Nicely struck and partly lustrous with light wear on the eagle's breast and Liberty's shoulder. The reverse is unmarked, and the obverse displays moderate contact only below the eye and near star 11.
