George IV gold Sovereign 1823 AU55 NGC, KM682, S-3800. A challenging series date, as is apparent by the combined PCGS and NGC censuses, which reveal a total of 33 examples certified to date out of the original mintage numbering some 617,000 examples. Despite modest circulation wear, the motifs remain clearly expressed and decorated in hints of residual luster, the surfaces a brassy golden hue, with outlines of charcoal accenting the devices to emboldening effect.
