Description

1913 Buffalo Nickel, PR66
Short-Lived Type One Reverse

1913 5C Type One PR66 PCGS. Treasury officials were not concerned that the dates on the new Buffalo nickel design would wear quickly. But they did worry that the denomination on circulated pieces would soon become unreadable, potentially igniting a denomination controversy reminiscent of the 1883 No Cents nickel. The problem was solved by the Type Two design, which made the Type One a single-year proof type. This high grade specimen is intricately impressed and exhibits rich, even autumn-brown toning. No flaws are readily apparent.(Registry values: N2998)
