Description

Victoria gold "Diamond Jubilee" Medal 1897 MS63 NGC, Eimer-1817a, BHM-3506. 56mm. 92.1gm. By G.W. de Saulles, after T. Brock and W. Wyon. Of Victoria's extensive Medal series accumulated over her prolific reign, the piece at hand ranks among the finest and most coveted, not only for its commemoration of her Diamond Jubilee, but also the success of the composition. While we've handled many of her smaller silver and gold Medals, rarely do we get the opportunity to see these in large-format, and arguably the most appropriate for fully appreciating the engraved designs. Generous, matte-like expanses host both her jubilee and young portraits, limited from even finer designations by the occasional and seemingly trivial contact mark which find themselves gently obscured by a mellowed cabinet patina. All-in-all, a popular and hotly contested lot that is sure to generate significant bidder interest in this fine a condition. Accompanied by the original red leather presentation box.

Metal: Gold
Diameter: 56mm
