Description

1807 B-2 Quarter, XF40
Final Draped Bust Issue

1807 25C B-2, R.3, XF40 NGC. Tompkins Die State 3/3. The 1807 Browning-2 variety is one of two 1807 varieties that mark the end of the Draped Bust design. There was a dramatic improvement of dies for the two varieties to produce the reported 220,643-piece mintage in 1807. More likely, that total includes many 1806-dated quarters. In any case, the B-2 1807 quarters are available in circulated grades and many coins show heavy wear. No quarters were minted again until 1815. This lilac-silver example displays bluish-gray and russet toning at the obverse borders and colorful iridescence on the richly toned reverse. Liberty's hair strands and drapery folds show smooth wear while the reverse sharper for the assigned XF grade. A few short pinscratches angle across cloud above field star 2.
