Description

1878 Twenty Dollar Liberty, MS63
Bright Mint Luster, Original Surfaces

1878 $20 MS63 PCGS. This is a boldly struck and highly attractive example of a scarce Type Three double eagle issue, which becomes rare just one step up from the Select Mint State grade level. In fact, current population data reports only 11 examples are certified finer than MS63 at NGC and PCGS combined, not counting any possible crossovers or duplications. A vibrant satiny sheen and original honey-gold coloration increase the eye appeal of this lovely coin. The design elements are boldly rendered, even on the dentils, and slight die doubling occurs on the reverse -- visible along the lower edges of STATES OF AMER and across the top edges of TWENTY. PCGS Population: 60 in 63 (3 in 63+), 8 finer (1/25).
