Description

1793 S-8 Wreath Cent, VF25
Abrasion-Free, Evenly-Colored Surfaces

1793 1C Wreath, Vine and Bars Edge, S-8, B-13, R.3, VF25 NGC. Breen Die State II. Surfaces are consistently deep burgundy-brown in color, with uniform, faint granularity observed upon close examination. However, other abrasions are limited to a few inconsequential nicks that have been part of the coin's patina for generations. Legends are clear and the central devices are well-defined. The bisecting reverse die crack is faintly discernable across the center point with a lens. S-8 is one of the more often seen varieties of this type, frequently encountered in type collectors' cabinets. It is best identified by the "horizontal twig" obverse, also found on S-9 and S-10, paired with a reverse that displays a horizontal spray of berries below ST. Our EAC grade VG10.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2015), lot 3809.
