Description

1793 Liberty Cap Cent, Fine Details
S-13, Rare First-Year Type

1793 1C Liberty Cap, S-13, B-20, Low R.4 -- Corrosion -- NGC Details. Fine. The three first-year major cent types are the Chain, Wreath, and Liberty Cap. The Liberty Cap type is rarest among 1793 cents, and pleasing examples are seldom encountered. The present piece has evenly granular plum-purple surfaces. The sharpness is better than expected for the Fine level, since the legends are bold and every border bead is well defined. Marks of any notice are limited to a small nick near the top of the bust, and linear recessed areas are present at Liberty's jaw and chin. A collectible example of the challenging introductory-year design.
