Description

Conditionally Rare, Near-Mint 1876-CC Half Eagle

1876-CC $5 AU58 NGC. All gold coins of the Carson City mint are popular and highly desired, and nearly every issue is a rarity within its series. Certainly that is the case with this issue, from a mintage of just 6,887 coins. Few of those have survived in any grade, and very few that are any nicer than this. NGC has only certified three examples of this date in higher grades. Of the seven AU58 grade coins, we firmly believe that only a couple different coins are represented. We have only ever offered one finer example of this date, that being an MS61 coin in our 2003 FUN auction. This is a splendid specimen with pleasing light yellow-gold color accented by wisps of red toning. The surfaces have only a few minor blemishes, and retain nearly full luster. This is an important opportunity that the specialist should not miss. Population: 7 in 58, 3 finer (10/05).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WX, PCGS# 8340, Greysheet# 9062)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”.
