Description

1876-CC Double Eagle, MS62
Original Orange-Gold Mint Luster

1876-CC $20 MS62 NGC. Winter 2-A. The 1876-CC has the highest mintage of any Carson City double eagle and the second-highest mintage of any CC gold issue, exceeded only by the 1891-CC half eagle. Despite the large mintage, the 1876-CC twenties are seldom seen any finer than the About Uncirculated level and only a handful exist above the MS62 grade. Frosty and lustrous orange-gold color adorns this eye appealing MS62 example. An overall sharp strike weakens only slightly among Liberty's frosted upper hair strands and at the hair bun. As expected for the grade, light abrasions dot the surfaces, but they are shallow and well-separated with large areas of unabraded surface to please the eye. NGC Census: 60 in 62 (3 in 62+), 5 finer (6/25).(Registry values: N4719)
