Description

1812/1 O-102a Half, AU58
Small 8, Sharp and Lustrous

1812/1 50C Small 8, O-102a, R.2, AU58 PCGS. CAC. The late die state of this marriage shows a fine crack through the date. The Small 8 Overdate half dollar is a popular variety, and the present piece is an attractive example with only a trace of wear. The surfaces are frosty and lustrous with wispy gold toning on the obverse. The reverse is brilliant -- essentially untoned, with nearly full luster. A CAC-endorsed example of the Small 8 overdate. Population: 20 in 58 (1 in 58+), 22 finer. CAC: 3 in 58, 4 finer (5/16).
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2011), lot 3619.
