Description

1861 Quarter Eagle, MS62
Old Reverse Hub

1861 $2 1/2 Old Reverse, Type One, MS62 NGC. The Type One reverse hub uses large arrowheads and border lettering. Mint State examples are seldom offered in any grade, though MS62 pieces like the present are more accessible than higher-grade coins. Struck from clashed dies, this piece displays warm peach-gold luster and is well struck, save for the usual softness on the eagle's left (facing) leg. Light abrasions are all that deny a finer grade. Census: 15 in 62, 9 finer (8/25).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25JW, PCGS# 97794, Greysheet# 8286)

Weight: 4.18 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
