Description

1866-S Two and a Half, MS61
Rare in Uncirculated Grades

1866-S $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. The 1866-S has a tiny mintage relative to its double eagle counterpart, and is rarely encountered in Mint State. The pumpkin-gold surfaces exhibit ample luster, and marks are far fewer than anticipated for the grade. The reverse die was misaligned, since the reverse rim is wider at 10:30 than at 4:30. The reverse border is strike doubled. Census: 7 in 61, 2 finer (7/24).(Registry values: P2)
