Description

1943 Quarter Dollar, AU53
FS-103, Doubled Die Obverse

1943 25C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-103, AU53 PCGS. There are several doubled die varieties for the 1943 Washington quarter. FS-103 is the most dramatically doubled, and this is the variety listed in the Guide Book. PCGS lists only 42 attributed examples of this variety in all grades, just three of which grade Mint State. The present example is nearly Uncirculated. Detail is strong, but slight friction over the devices determines the AU53 designation. The coin is untoned and satiny with few marks.
