Description

1852 Seated Half, MS62
Scarce in All Grades

1852 50C WB-101 MS62 PCGS. The mintage of 77,130 pieces did not circulate in normal circumstances. The ratio of silver to gold was knocked askew by the outpouring of gold from California. Silver coins were melted, others hoarded, and order was not restored until the weight of silver in coinage was reduced in 1853. Meanwhile, half dollars from 1851 and 1852 disappeared. This lustrous and attractive 1852 half displays golden accents at the borders and satin-smooth silver centers. Sharply struck, a few light lines in the right obverse field dictate the assigned grade. Population: 11 in 62, 28 finer (6/16).
