Description

1942-P 5C Type Two PR66 Cameo PCGS. The Type Two 1942 proof Jefferson nickel is the only proof struck in the 35% silver war alloy. Proof set production was halted after 1942, and it did not resume again until 1950. The 1942-P Type Two proof is readily available in most grades, but remarkably few pieces are known with a Cameo designation. This Premium Gem is among just 17 such coins at PCGS, and a lone Deep Cameo is also reported at that service. Liquidlike fields show off razor-sharp, satiny devices beneath a hue of light golden toning. Cameo contrast is immediately apparent on the reverse, but also present on the obverse. Population: 9 in 66 Cameo, 3 finer (4/19).(Registry values: N208)
