1849-O Gold Dollar, MS63
Sole Open Wreath Date
1849-O G$1 Open Wreath MS63 NGC. CAC. Variety 3. The 1849-O
gold dollar is requisite for a New Orleans type set, as the sole
Open Wreath issue from the facility. This sun-gold example is
lustrous and unblemished. The strike is good, though the hair near
the ear is incompletely brought up. Three reverses are known for
the '49-O, but Variety 3 can be identified at a glance by prominent
wreath lapping. A radial crack is also noted near the M in AMERICA.
Housed in a prior generation holder. Census: 45 in 63, 49 finer.
