Dramatic Gem Mint State Hunan "Year 1" Ten Cents

Hunan. Hung-hsien 10 Cents Year 1 (1916) MS65 PCGS, KM-K762, L&M-857, Kann-762 (Listed as Essai), WS-0929, Wenchao-1035. Year 1 for the Hung-hsien's reign, but Year 5 for the Republic of China. A historically rich transitional piece, commemorating the birth of the Hung-hsien (Hong Xian) Regime, which only lasted 83 days after Yuan Shih-kai's attempt to declare himself emperor of China and bear the name Hung-hsien. Ironically, because the reign of the Hung-hsien Monarchy was cut short, these pieces never reached full production and ended almost as soon as they began. This piece is among the finest of the certified examples, boasting a impressive Gem level of preservation with the surface managing to escape major evidence of wear, apart from the reverse die crack. Overall, an exciting issue that offers both historical depth and a superior condition.
