1795 Half Dollar, XF Details
O-117, Die Defect Line Beneath Y

1795 50C 2 Leaves, O-117, T-3, R.4 -- Polished -- PCGS Genuine. XF Details. Tompkins Die State 3/1. A curved, heavy die line beneath the right side of Y in LIBERTY is a reliable indicator of the O-117 (T-3) variety. The exact source for the defect is unclear: Either it is the curve of a mispunched letter or just a slip of the engraver's tool. This bright-silver example is boldly struck with only minor wear from circulation. The motifs show sharp details approaching the About Uncirculated level. A loupe reveals microscopic pitting and faint die clashing, plus a small rim nick beneath 9 and 5 in the date.
