Description

1805/4 50C O-101, T-4, R.3, XF40 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/2. Charcoal-gray borders cede to dove-gray fields and pearl-white high points. This is a deeply toned, well-defined Overton-101 with scattered minor obverse marks and an unabraded reverse. O-101 is an obvious overdate, with the crosslet, diagonal, base, and upright of the 4 all partly visible beneath 5. Struck from an early die stage, lacking the reverse cud above R and I of AMERICA that represents the later die states.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2015), lot 4455, where it brought $2,820.
