Description
1859 Seated Dollar
Attractive PR63 Cameo
1859 $1 PR63 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Though light hairlines and a
few areas of slight contact are noted in the fields, the overall
eye appeal of this minimally toned, exquisitely detailed beauty
holds strong. Powerful mirrors supply ample contrast with the
moderately frosted devices. David Bowers suggests that the Mint was
overly ambitious in the second year of officially offering proofs
to the public, with a mintage of 800 pieces -- of which at least
350 pieces were later melted as unsold. Population: 9 in 63 (1 in
63+), 12 finer (10/14). Ex: Houston Signature (Heritage,
12/2008), lot 868.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 252D, PCGS# 87002, Greysheet# 7302)
