Description

1924-D Cent, MS65+ Red
CAC'd Registry Candidate
Within the PCGS Condition Census

1924-D 1C MS65+ Red PCGS. CAC. Ex: Duckor. The 1924-D once again exemplifies the exceptional quality of the Lincoln cents in the Duckor Collection. It is one of just six Gem Red examples with CAC endorsement, none being approved finer, and it is one of only seven Plus-graded coins for the grade at PCGS. The only PCGS-certified 1924-D that is finer is the MS66 Red D.L. Hansen coin housed in the current highest-rated PCGS Registry Set. The Hansen coin last appeared at auction in 1999. The Duckor specimen is without doubt of the finest quality currently available to collectors for this issue. The only comparable example to appear at auction in recent times is an MS65+ PCGS CAC example that we handled in our June 2018 Long Beach Signature, which realized $18,000 -- toying with the auction record that was set by the Tom Mershon Gem Red coin in our April 2006 Central States Signature, realizing $19,550. The Duckor coin has all of the attributes necessary to mirror those record prices, if not surpass them.

Attractive copper-orange surfaces yield satiny, unblemished mint luster, without any mentionable carbon spotting. Some die erosion is noted at the borders of the devices, but the sharpness of the strike is nonetheless bold. Eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 47 in 65 (7 in 65+) Red, 1 finer. CAC: 29% of a total 21 submissions for this issue/grade passed. 6 in 65, 0 finer (2/20).
